BRANDON LABELLE
music on a short thin wire
CD
Each track of music on a short thin wire was produced by using two of the first eight CD releases by Ground Fault Recordings. Labelle played two CDs simultaneously through separate players, and separate channels, splitting the CDs to a single speaker (one CD left, the other right). Using the speakers themselves as the main sound source, he attached short thin copper wires to their surfaces, then attached the other end of the wires directly to contact microphones. Playing the CDs activated the speakers, and in turn caused the wires to vibrate. The tracks on this CD are excerpts from these recordings

Site Specific sound
Book/CD
Site Specific Sound documents a series of sound installations from 1998 to 2002 by sound-artist and writer Brandon LaBelle. Each installation was created as part of the Beyond Music Sound Festival in Los Angeles and drawing upon the architectural structure of the building, the installations explore the relationship between sound and space by staging social and spatial interventions. In documenting these five installations over the course of five years Site Specific Sound pries open architecture, and the specifics of locality, as a contingent form whose relationship to sound extends well beyond acoustical phenomena. It suggests ways to understand the fabrication of space through sound as a central lens, and architecture as a strategy for the construction of sound events. 80 page book including a Compact Disc of audio work. (errant bodies/Ground fault)

les oscillations
CD
These two parts are built starting from the same selection of recordings (realized between 1995 and 2003). The selected recordings (for the first part) will be used as calibration for the second part according to the following rule: starting from structure 1 of A towards Z to build the 2 of Z towards A. Without respecting scrupulously the structural order, the two parts are listened as if they faced in a deforming mirror. Thus the response which is given to each sound is different in each part because of this general structure". Composed between April 2003 and march 2004.

BRIAN LAVELLE
Fallen are the domes of green Amber
CD
At over 70 minutes, the album consists of two lengthy and picturesque tracks. Both are extremely focused, complex, and dynamic -- they evolve, gradually and intricately. Beautiful (yet also melancholy) and abstract, the two pieces are quite distinct from each other in their own respects, yet fit together to form a seamless and monumental overall work. (Diophantine Discs)
$11

LAW

BRIAN LEBER
Till
CD
Brian Leber is a composer based out of Chicago, USA. “Till” is mostly an amalgam of pieces that appeared in slightly different form in his own tiny private editions between 2001 and 2004. A mixture of delicate field recordings, found sounds, manipulated objects, and scrupulous attention to detail. The execution of his works is what catches the listener’s ear, and Leber uses no synthesizers while composing. This is not improvisational music, but rather graphically scored prior to execution. The pieces have room to breath, expand, and let the listener set the pace at which to take it all in. (alluvial)
$ 8

Lecanora
Krack
3" CD
Lecanora is the brand-new sound-project of Cyril Herry, who used to play with Exotoendo and Sechres Mound (a collaboration with Toy Bizarre). LE DEPEUPLEUR
Disambiguation
CD
‘Disambiguation’ is the third CD from the duo of Zbigniew Karkowski and Kaspar T. Toeplitz. It features one ongoing stream of grey, heavy and disturbing noises. It contains blocks of solid and almost material sounds, causing a physicality and urgency to the “music” which is rare to find these days. (Aufabwegen)

LENS CLEANER TRIO
C.D. and Lens Cleaner
LP
The Lens Cleaner Trio hail from Argentina, and this LP has its genesis in an improvised session conducted in 1999 by Jose Marchi (guitar), Marcelo Aguirre (drums). and C.D. (electronics). After the initial recordings, C.D. took the recordings and disassembled them, constructing new sound shapes from the various puzzle pieces. The results are a unique mixture of psychotropic improv music, and electro-acoustic sounds. Limited edition 300 copies.
$14

JASON LESCALLEET
Electronic Music
LP
Intensely abstract but never too cold or austere. Lescalleet is known primarily for his perilous, sometimes acrobatic tape loopism (as heard on his collaborations with John Hudak), but here he's in full electroacoustic mode, with great, gauzy curtains of sound from time to time picking up a gust of air. Contrasting with the in-situ dramas of Forlorn Green, his duo with Greg Kelley (nmperign), Electronic Music shows Lescalleet's stuff up-close and semi-impersonal. It's a definite texture-fest. Especially brittle cicadic sheets give way to whatever you call a space ship's equivalent of a boiler room. Highly Recomended (RRRecords)
$10

LETHE
Sleep Digest
CD
A very interesting CD from this Japanese Duo, recorded using Electronics, Guitar, Cello, and hand made instruments. The results are twelve tracks of interesting, and flowing ambient music. $12
Kristall
7"
LICHT-UNG (German for "glade") is the name of a label, art- (publishing lyrics, pictures, etc.) and sound project from the western part of Gemany with a very peculiar and rather dadaistic approach. The two pieces on "kristall" seem to be based mainly on feedback- and metal or glass sounds that are carefully put together for a queer-sounding trip. Side A consists of humming, growling drones, low siren-like sounds and high-frequency feedbacks, powerful and absorbing and very abstract, while never turning into sheer noise. Side B delivers a crystal-clear noise chant and metallic overtones processed with obscure effects. (Drone records)

FRANCISCO LOPEZ
Untitled (2000)
CD
Musique concrete in its purest form. However it¹s impossible to find any recognisable sounds here. For Lopez does not keep archives of found-sounds, he¹s not a documentalist. On the contrary he explores sound into depths searching for its simplest, basic principle. Manipulating found sounds he creates minimal, static structures build of noises from the threshold of audibility. Seemingly cool and abstract this music is saturated with emotions and passion of searching for the primordial sound reality. It¹s archaeology, anatomy and alchemy of sound in one.

LUGOSI
Dawn
CD
Lugosi existed in Wellington, New Zealand from the mid to late 1990’s and consisted of players Campbell Kneale (Birchville Cat Motel, etc), Andrew Savage (Sunship) and Leon Schutz, with a guest appearance on track two by Clayton Noone. ‘Dawn’ is the groups only CD release to date, following a trickle of fantastic and long out of print miniature edition lathe records and cassette tapes mostly published on Kneales’ Celebrate Psi Phenomenon label. The six improvisations on the album were recorded in the Lower Hutt Baptist Church in 1998. With electric guitars and keyboards the group creates multiple layers of swooning feedback loops, drifting guitar notes and riffs that interweave - sculpting rich harmonic drones that fall in and out of rhythm with sprinklings of intermittent percussion. CMR is delighted to bring this set of crisp recordings out of the vaults to a wider audience of wanting ears.

$15

LUSTMORD

LUX MAMMOTH
Hertz Circus
CD
While the Lux Mammoth live experience can be earth shattering to say the least, their debut recording, Hertz Circus, is a much gentler and defined listen, displaying perhaps what they might sound like under a microscope. With sampled drones and bass guitars as the foundation to their tracks, Lux Mammoth twist the parameters of their electronic equipment to extract the ghost in the machine that inevitably ends up riding the beast. It is textured, emotive and really quite dark, all the while held together by an underlying musicality.
