EA, from Warsaw, Poland, create a kind of organic ambient drone music, which incorporates very emotional waves of sound and concrete elements. The whole is floating and seeping slowly into the rooms it is being played in and into the minds that listen to it, with very rich details (water-sounds, gongs, guitars, unidentified field recordings) it seems as if these sensible and meditative sounds establish a subliminal non-verbal communication from unconscious areas. ltd. edition of 250 copies (Drone Records)

Brand new CD from this group of Polish sound artists. This material represents a slight shift from there pervious works, and documents a different approach to sound matter. No instruments were used, only field recordings from around the world (Spain, Norway, Morocco, Austria and various places in Poland). All sounds were mixed and processed live during one recording session. At the beginning there is nothing but silence, suddenly something starts to grate, grind, scrape, somebody's steps reaches your ear, silence and a slow, revolving, veiled, drone coming from away. electronic feedback, strange, prepared voices, growing, harmonic noise and the whisper of electrodes. Highly recomended.

ellende is a mysterious project. no one knows exactly who contributes to ellende. all we can say is that some people contributes sound to one dutch man living in japan. this man carefully builds (he's an architect) his tracks with these sound contributions. ellende has fastly got a very strong reputation in the dark ambient/experimental scene, creating unique atmospheres that can't be compared to anything else. this 3" gives a perfect example of ellende music, maybe a little harsher and darker than previous works. EMERGE is a new project from Augsburg in South-Germany. After two self-released tapes & CDrs, DRONE Records is very pleased to officially present this great audio-work to a wider audience. The two tracks here ('Relativity' and 'Profundity') carries the listeners into very deep & low sound-regions throughout mysterious low rumblings & mechanized loops added by various distorted voices arising from beyond. This atmospheric feeling is like being under the earth or even underwater. It's something that sounds like deep breathings coming from an invisible abyss that would create a psychic room inside it where the darkness is without any boundaries; no time or logic whatsoever: it's the primal state of being. limited 300

Mers de Sommeil
|
CD

At the core of US project Encomiast is Ross Hagen, a graduate student at the university of Colorado College of Music. With this pedigree, it's no surprise that main ingredients of Encomiast's sound palette originate in traditional instrumentation (treated guitar noise) & notions of harmony, but these parameters have been subtly inflected to pave the way for hazy abstract soundscapes. Encomiast has been recycling extensively recorded live performances, dissecting them, extirpating textures from them, reassembling the pieces to forge a dreamy language of haunting tones. "Mers de Sommeil" illustrates this approach and is like a burst geode where volatile flakes drift away, slowly swirling, numbing our senses, making us reach a new threshold of perception. ltd. 100 (mystery Sea)

"Feral Towers" is the first vinyl release by Envenomist, the new project from David Reed, previously known for his work under the names Luasa Raelon and Brittle Foundries. Unlike the densely woven dark soundscapes of Luasa Raelon, for his work as Envenomist, Reed creates sparse, cold, minimal synth pieces, reminiscent of early industrial electronic artists such as Maurizio Bianchi, Lustmord, and certain moments of Schloss Tegal. The two tracks that make up this single offer a perfect soundtrack to an icy, desolate winter. ltd. 300 (Bloodlust)

Envenomist is the synth-laden side project of David Reed, the man behind the industrial noise machine Luasa Raelon. Envenomist is more rooted in the real. This isn't a crashed plane in the tundra where you play the action star survivalist. This is the night you fell down drunk in the snow & woke up in a hospital half alive. You play the idiot. Gma
|
CD
|
Russian project Erthad, originating from Kazan, exists since late 90-ies. "Gma" was recorded in 2002 with the use of voice and software noise synthesizers. If one says that the album's style is called "ambient noise" - is to say almost nothing. The disk has very specific atmosphere: this is a noise meditation, calm and detached from emotional fuss. An intuitive electronic pulse synchronizes with brain frequencies, rising and falling waves of non-aggressive white noise pacify thoughts, and constantly rustling high frequencies when listened to attentively evoke dissotiative sensation, dissolving perception in the sonic field. However, everything as always depends on a listener himself. (Zhelezobeton)

Technology of sleep
|
LP
|
'Sleep' indicates a development in style from the drone and loop releases of previous years. More compositional in approach, Steel works a gentle blend of natural and artificial field materials including high frequency pitches, deep bass and minute scratches of sound sourced from the natural environment, household appliances, and body movements. At times a combination of the noise from ones surroundings, as well as the natural pops and clicks of the vinyl are beckoned into the compositions through the spatial arrangement of sounds and Steel's interesting use of altering volume. Recognizable but also unfamiliar, the territory mapped by 'Sleep' sits comfortably in the electroacoustic region of sound making, background or foreground.

On this EP ESO STEEL solely uses pure field recordings of machines, natural events and settings and mic'd up body movements... They are used and processed to create very dense and compact drone-sounds, that are again put together in a very suspenseful, concrete but floating way the clearness & dynamic of the sounds are truly unique. Highly recommended ltd. 250, Drone records.

With the "Inhuman Treatment" 3" EXSANGUINATE has delved deeper into some of the black atmospheres explored on their full length "The Black Acts." These three tracks peel back the more caustic grating electronics showcased there to reveal the oppressive Dark Ambient side of the project. Deeply layered sonic details clash and shift amid heavy tonal ambience and corrosive textures resulting in a dramatic, tense and enveloping listen.

EXSANGUINATE / [l-i-t-d-n-a] Allegory of Death
|
CD
|
Each band presents it's own sonic Allegories of Death... meditations on that inevitability we all fear and at the same time are fascinated by. To set the tone Exsanguinate starts with a commanding and urgent track, flush with militaristic undercurrents in it's opening moments. From there the material evolves into something more abstract and steeped in dread with tendrils stretching into elements of clinical drone and throbbing frequencies to a more introspective ambient chaos. [l-i-t-d-n-a] rounds out the disc with their unique blend of deep tones, harsh frequencies, gentle pulses against an almost ambient feedback. Squalls, static, interjecting beats, squirming distortions and vocalizations accentuate an anxious, looming reality. (Misanthrope)
